Stories

Single-frame narratives that withhold their own plot. Drawings as the middle of a story you never get the ends of.

A wide illustration of a lone figure in an ambiguous landscape, drawn in flat muted colour.

A series of drawings that invites you to work out what happened just before, and to guess at what happens next.

The narratives here leave their own stories unspoken. They may be fragments — anecdotes from the thousands of lives and events that appear and dissolve around us — or they may turn out to be connected. The drawings do not say, and that is the whole proposition: each one is the middle of something, handed over without the ends.

Where it goes next

The first phase of the project is building the repository of visual stories. The second brings in writers to work against the images, pairing each drawing with a written narrative. The end goal is a book that puts both side by side and lets them argue.
